Collegium Occidentalis (West Kingdom)

Saturday November 7th, 2015
Los Altos, California

Populace of the West! Now is the hour to master new skills and areas of knowledge in period arts and sciences, or to more fully develop existing ones! Collegium Occidentalis 2015, offering 40+ workshops, demonstrations, lectures, and panel discussions celebrating the craftsmanship and expertise of pre-17th century Europe (and beyond!), is the West Kingdom event to ensure that happens.

This year, Collegium Occidentalis runs 12+ hours, from before 8am in the morning until 9pm in the evening, and is in a stunning, but intimate setting - a site with a Great Hall lit by tall gothic windows, a fireside den, and a stone courtyard girded by wisteria and arched doorways.

The FIRST ten (10) confirmed Collegium activities are as follows:
-- Bardic 201: Life Beyond Sonnets - Workshop (50 minutes)
-- Basic Tablet Weaving - Demonstration (1 Hour, 50 minutes)
-- Fermented Foods - Demo / Lecture (1 Hr, 50 minutes)
-- Introduction to Pigments - Demonstration (50 minutes)
-- Mining Theophilus - Lecture (50 minutes)
-- Non-Alcoholic Drinks and Syrups and Vinegars - Demo / Lecture (1 Hour, 50 minutes)
-- Period Jewelry Slide Show - Lecture (1 Hour, 50 minutes)
-- Seeing Is Perceiving: The Diviners and How They Got Inside Our Heads - Roundtable Discussion (75 minutes)
-- Silverpoint: Getting the Lead Out - Hands-on Workshop (1 Hour, 50 minutes)
-- Survey of Design Motifs - Lecture (50 minutes)

And many more Collegium activities are in the works!

Potluck samplings of period food will be offered midday and in the early evening; however, as supply of period offerings is limited, Collegium participants are encouraged to bring their own meals.
